Pay Rate/Range: The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $70,000 to $82,000/year. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University. The full salary range for this position is $69,500 to $123,500/year.

Brief Summary of Job Duties:

Acts as Technical Director and Manager of Campbell Hall. Directs all preparation, execution and administrative duties for events and instruction at Campbell Hall. Responsible for all operations of Campbell Hall, including instructional support, venue scheduling, student staff hiring and training, and event billing. Supervises the Public Events Manager who assists in daily operations of Campbell Hall. Consults with clients concerning all elements of instructional and event support. Manages all theatrical equipment including training users, maintenance and repair.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • 4+ years experience working in an event or theatrical setting.
  • 4+ years experience working in a service oriented environment working with diverse groups of constituents.
  • 2+ years experience managing multiple tasks simultaneously with demanding deadlines.
  • 2+ years experience working with projection systems, including screen resolution, input switching, and troubleshooting.
  • 2+ years experience working with lighting systems, including maintenance, hanging, patching, and programming.
  • 2+ years experience working with audio consoles and sound engineering, including managing a 24 channel mix.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5+ years experience managing event support and/or theatrical support in a large event setting.
  • 2+ years of managing theatrical events with multiple stakeholders.
  • 2+ years of house management experience including ticketing, ushering, and capacity management.
  • 1+ years of advancing shows, red lining, and interpreting technical riders.

Special Conditions of Employment:

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:

Technical Support for Instruction and Events (50%): Acts as Technical Director and Manager of Campbell Hall for all events and instruction. Meets with Instructors to consult on technical needs for classes. Troubleshoots instructional equipment as necessary. Acts as the primary technical liaison for Arts and Lectures events and consults on all events in Campbell Hall. Interfaces with instructors and campus clients to ensure classes and events are supported. Advances shows, coordinate load-ins, rehearsals, performances, and strikes of events. Analyzes and modifies client's blueprints, lighting, and/or sound designs for events. Creates lighting and sound designs as required. Supervises the rigging of scenery and hanging of soft-goods as required; ensures safety through knowledge of weight distribution, material strengths and weaknesses, and anchoring techniques. Supervises and performs light carpentry when needed. Oversees loading/unloading of trucks as required.

Supervision & Administration (35%): Directly supervises the Public Events Manager in Campbell Hall. Supervises additional staff when they are scheduled to assist in Campbell Hall. Collaborates with the Public Events Manager to supervise the hiring, training, and supervision of student staff for instructional and event support. Collaborates with the Public Events Manager to coordinate appropriate staffing for event support. Collaborates with visiting Production Managers to mount a show and ensure adherence to UC policies. Attends Arts & Lectures Advance meetings, reviews and "red lines" technical riders. Provides real time feedback to Arts & Lectures representatives. Monitors facility conditions and submits requests to facilities as necessary. Ensures that clients and staff adhere to procedures designed to maintain university facilities in good condition. Communicates with campus safety officials. Maintains calendar of events for Campbell Hall for classes and events. Supervises and assists in the operation and maintenance of specialized audio, video, and lighting systems. Trains students and full time staff in the operation of systems. Assigns equipment maintenance duties including rewiring, soldering, lubrication, and parts replacement; assigns other maintenance tasks and modifications as needed. Supervises the development and updating of Campbell Hall Operations manual. Creates Campbell Hall specific manuals for A/V equipment, and opening/closing procedures.

Consultation & System Design (10%): Instructs clients in the use of A/V and computer equipment. Consults with departments, committees, and clients regarding staffing and equipment needs for special events. Consults with clients to prepare cost estimates and budgetary alternatives. Works with clients to ascertain computer and A/V needs and recommends systems for their use. Communicates with campus safety officials.

Inventory & Allocation (5%): Approves, recommends, and initiates equipment purchases in consultation with the Classroom Services Manager to ensure consistency with the rest of the technology deployed to General Assignment Classrooms across campus Allocates equipment, staffing, and facility resources to ensure smooth and efficient operation and full support for instructors and clients using the facility. Maintains maintenance and repair schedules.. Keeps abreast of current trends in audio-visual, cinema, and computer technology.
