About the Opportunity

Position Description

The Assessment Technical Specialist provides technical support to programs in all colleges to ensure the effective use of technology, including the HelioCampus platform, for the assessment of program learning outcomes. In addition, this position will support program use of assessment data for continuous improvement through the development and maintenance of Tableau dashboards and reporting.

The successful candidate will report to the Vice Provost of Institutional Assessment & Evaluation. The Office of Institutional Assessment coordinates program and general education assessment across the colleges in close collaboration with college leadership, Academic Technology and CATLR. The goal of assessment of program assessment is to provide meaningful information for continuous improvement and to meet accreditation standards.

The responsibilities of the position include:

- Support programs on their assessment of program learning outcomes
  • Provide resources, training and consultation to programs on the assessment process, beginning with curriculum mapping
  • Implement an annual calendar of assessment tasks for programs
  • Collaborate with Academic Technology to ensure assignment linking in HelioCampus

- Coordinate the utilization of the HelioCampus assessment software
  • Maintain a record of program contacts, conversations, technical issues and HelioCampus status in a tracking system
  • Provide proactive outreach to ensure assessment work in HelioCampus
  • Implement a calendar of assessment tasks for programs and HelioCampus updates, including catalog additions/deletions,
  • Set up and revise programs in HelioCampus, including curriculum mapping and permissions


- Serve as the technical expert on HelioCampus platform
  • Provide technical support and consultation to programs
  • Serve as an NU point of contact for HelioCampus technical issues
  • Serve as HelioCampus data custodian within NU

- Maintain and refine Tableau dashboards on student performance on outcomes
  • Develop systematic data quality checks
  • Develop additional views and custom reporting
  • Maintain PLO/CLO tableau database on sharepoint and NU website

- Support program coordinators in the interpretation of assessment data for program improvement and accreditation reporting

- Provide resources, training and consultation on report generation and data analysis

- Track program reporting and proactively reach out to follow up

- Supervise graduate student interns

- Create faculty resources and guides for HelioCampus, Tableau and the use of assessment data in collaboration with Academic Technology

- Build assessment capacity and the community of practice to promote and strengthen the NU assessment ecosystem

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of three years of experience with Tableau, preferably in higher education
  • Minimum of three years of experience managing data and research in higher education or related field.
  • Proven ability to work independently and proactively to follow up on issues.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and requests.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate and communicate in person and in writing with leadership, faculty, and staff.
  • Experience in technical support role
  • Expertise in the assessment of student learning outcomes
  • Experience utilizing HelioCampus or other assessment management platforms.
  • Masters degree in related field
